PlayStation is a video game console that was released by Sony in 1994. It was one of the first consoles to feature a full-featured 32-bit architecture. During its lifespan, the PlayStation was also one of the most successful and bestselling home gaming systems.
The PlayStation control pad is one of the most notable features of the system. It had four main select buttons, as well as a D-pad and shoulder buttons. In addition, it had a winged-shaped design with an abundance of well-positioned buttons.
The PlayStation control pad was the first controller for the original PlayStation. Later, the Dual Analog controller added two analog sticks. This controller was developed for flight simulation games.
Besides the control pad, the PlayStation had another prominent feature: a digital media player. The console could play CDs and compact discs. However, it did not use cartridges like the Nintendo Entertainment System.
Another unique feature is the “Accolades” award, which is designed as a community awards program. Accolades is now discontinued because not enough people are using it.
The PlayStation was also the first console to ship 100 million units. Other games sold during the PlayStation’s lifetime included Ridge Racer, Crash Bandicoot, Twisted Metal, and Tekken.
The controller for the PlayStation featured a D-pad and start button. Users would click on the PS button to open a quick menu.
The PlayStation Control Center is a separate menu that allows users to view notifications, submenus, and friends. There is also a library icon that pulls in digital purchases and previous installed games.
