What is Playstation?

Playstation is a brand of video game consoles and handhelds created by Sony Computer Entertainment. It also produces games for the consoles, a line of gaming accessories, an online service and multiple magazines. The PlayStation series is known for its strong line-up of first-party games, a wide selection of online services, and high-powered hardware.

The PlayStation was released in 1994 to critical acclaim. Its use of compact discs (CDs) heralded the video game industry’s move away from cartridges. Its success spawned a line of successors, including the more advanced PS2 in 2000 and the smaller PS one in 2013.

Sony’s current flagship console is the PlayStation 5. The system has set sales records since its release in 2020 and is available in two versions: a standard version and a digital edition that lacks a physical disc drive.

The company has also made a big push into streaming with its PlayStation Now service and the PlayStation Portal handheld that can remotely play games on your PS5. The Portal looks like someone turned a Teletubby into a DualSense controller but does have an audio jack for connecting headphones or speakers.
