The Playstation

The playstation is one of Sony’s most popular brands of video game consoles. It is the first in a series of 32-bit systems that signaled Sony’s arrival as a video game powerhouse and helped usher in the widespread use of CDs for game storage.

Launched in 1994, the original PlayStation set a new standard for the next generation of video games. Its sleek design and aggressive youth marketing made it a hit with adolescents and adults alike. Its massive library and top-tier franchises such as Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Tekken, Tomb Raider, Metal Gear, and Final Fantasy, also helped drive its success.

After a decade of solid performance, the PlayStation 4 launched in 2013 and proved itself as the system to beat. Its sleek, simplified interface and rock-solid controller made it a winner. Its default solid-state storage compared to the spinning platter hard drives of its predecessors also cut loading times significantly.

Despite a somewhat muddled roadmap, the PlayStation 5 has proven itself to be a worthy successor and is still at the top of its class. The faster processing power and improved graphics capabilities of the PS5 have made it a force to be reckoned with in this console cycle.

The latest PlayStation models are 30% slimmer and have a bit more storage capacity, but the core components remain the same. The system has a custom eight-core AMD Zen 2 CPU and an advanced graphics processor with AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture. It also supports 4K output, unlike the standard PlayStation 4, which can only play regular Blu-rays at 1080p.
