What You Need to Know About the PlayStation

Sony’s PlayStation has been a huge success since 1994, and it’s still going strong. While other consoles have changed the way we play video games, PlayStation has remained one of the best-selling and most iconic consoles of all time.

The History Of PlayStation

The first PlayStation was released in Japan on 3 December 1994 and quickly became the most successful game console of its time. It was a breakthrough in video game technology, using the compact disc format to push 3D polygon graphics and high-fidelity full-motion video.

During its production run, the PlayStation went through several variants. It also had a few other hardware accessories that were bundled with it, like the PSX digital video recorder and the PlayStation Bravia television set.

The PlayStation Controller

The original control pad for the PlayStation was based on a basic design of 4 select buttons, known as ‘Green Triangle’, ‘Red Circle’, ‘Blue Cross’ and ‘Pink Square’, and start and select buttons on the face. It was used for both the PlayStation and PlayStation 2.

Haptic Feedback

The PlayStation controller featured haptic feedback that mimicked touch to make it more realistic. This allowed you to experience different textures when running through fields of grass or plodding through mud.

FREE GAMES

Every month, PlayStation releases a range of free games for users to download. These are great for getting players into gaming and can be a real hit with younger gamers. They often come with a lot of free goodies, so it’s worth checking back regularly to see what games they have to offer.
